Those who know me are aware of how easy going I am, however a few things do get me slightly agitated, being an analytical chemist in a former life, one of those is stupid marketing gimmiks dressed up like science.  I love adverts for nano some hybrid particle face cream with active oxygen, but a recent toothpaste ad  has beaten them all...

Toothpaste with Liquid Caclium to repair your teeth...

Being an analytical Chemist I now that Calcium is an alkali earth metal, and in it's pure state exisits as a soft blue/silver metal.  To be liquid it would have to be quite hot.  842 degrees celcius to be precise (according to my edition of the rubber book).  At that temperature I don't think it would do much for your teeth, do you ??

Of course, being an alkali earth metal, it's quite reactive, and when mixed with Water forms Calcium hydroxide and Hydrogen gas...

Ca + 2.H2O --->  Ca(OH)2 + H2(g)

Now at 842 degrees, this reaction would be quite quick, and as the autoignition temperature of Hydrogen is about 500 degrees quite impressive as the hydrogen exploded, destroying you and your toothbrush...

All I can say is where do I get some ??
